OUR PROJECT

For our TPE (Travaux Personnels Encadrés) project, the mandatory subjects were English and Math. After a brainstorm with the team, we decided to base our project on Alan Turing and his accomplishments.Indeed, he is considered to be the father of modern computers and has helped in decoding the famous Enigma machine that the Germans were using during WWII to send secret messages, thus saving millions of lives and supposedly shortening the war.

In this website, you will see how Alan Turing influenced the modern world, therefore fitting into the theme of "agir pour son avenir".

In order to answer to both English and Math, we have decided to base all of our research on one question :

How has Alan Turing’s discoveries shaped our daily lives and given birth to the modern computer?

Therefore, you will find on this website: general facts about Alan Turing and how he impacted the outcome of WWII and British society and then a deeper explanation of his discovery: the Turing Machine, explaining how it is based on a mathematic tool called cryptography.

As well, we will talk about the evolution and functioning of a computer and talk about the Turing Test, which is a test for intelligence in a computer, requiring that a human being should be unable to distinguish the machine from another human being by using the replies to questions put to both.

As we are in a bilingual school and as we study math in french, we chose to mix French and English in this website to show the international attributes of our team.
